What size guitar does my child need based on their age?

While every student grows at their own pace, here is a general guide to choosing the right guitar size by age and height:

1/4 Size (30" - 34"): Ideal for young beginners aged 3 to 5 years (Height: 3'3" to 3'9").
1/2 Size (34" - 38"): Perfect for children aged 5 to 8 years (Height: 3'10" to 4'5").
3/4 Size (38" - 42"): Designed for students aged 8 to 11 years (Height: 4'6" to 4'11").
4/4 Full Size: Recommended for players aged 11 years to adult (Height: 5'0"+).

Should a complete beginner start on an acoustic, electric, or classical guitar?

It depends on the player's preference, but nylon-string Classical Guitars are often favoured for younger beginners because the soft nylon strings are gentle on unconditioned fingertips. Electric Guitars are actually easier to press down than standard steel-string acoustics due to thinner string tension and lower action, making them a great choice for rock and pop fans. Acoustic Guitars are ideal for those who want a portable, all-in-one instrument for strumming and songwriting without needing an amplifier.
